Science
At TIMU we believe that pupils should develop a sense of awe for natural phenomena and an enquiring mind about the world around them. Pupils should have the confidence and skills to be able to find scientific solutions and truth for themselves through practical enquiry. They should be able to apply scientific method throughout every area of their lives. We recognise that science surrounds us and is vital to the future. At TIMU we believe that pupils should be ready to adapt and contribute in a changing world.
All children deserve broad and balanced Science education regardless of ethnic, origin, gender, class, aptitude or disability. We aim to build pupils Cultural Capital, through our Curriculum, by ensuring knowledge is local, learning is contextualised and life enriching activities underpin our learning.
The aims of the science curriculum at TIMU are
- To provide a curriculum to meet the needs of all pupils.
- To develop their scientific knowledge – contextually and locally.
- To develop the pupils’ ability to apply scientific method to any aspect of their life.
- To develop pupils’ sense of habitus, awe and wonder for the world around them.
- To develop pupil’s confidence in their own ability to contribute – Utopia dreaming.
- To contribute to the development of the pupils’ key skills in literacy, numeracy and across the curriculum.
Our Science vision is building for the future

Scientific Enquiry
In order to embed scientific method in pupil’s long term memory, our pupils complete a full science investigation each term. We focus teaching on one specific skill each term. Pupils are then encouraged to ‘blue sky think’ their new found knowledge to design solutions for real world problems.
Organisers are provided to support the teaching of science investigation skill. 2020 Focus Skills Organisers and Assessments links are below:
